In preparation for the next surface transportation reauthorization bill, and to ensure that the public’s perspectives and ideas are considered, the Department of Transportation (DOT) invites the public to provide ideas, comments, and information for consideration in the development of the next surface transportation authorizing legislation. This is an important opportunity to advocate for better transit, more walkability/rollability, and/or safer bicycling infrastructure. Thursday 21 Aug., 12-1pm (CT) Transportation Access to Public Health Options (TAPHO) is an innovative mapping tool that shows how people can reach places that impact health, such as clinics and hospitals, parks and recreation sites, access to food and nutrition, infrastructure for safe walking and biking, and more. Stakeholders can use data in this tool to close gaps in transportation access gaps and support healthier community outcomes. ТАРНО was developed by the Bay Lake Regional Planning Commission (BLRPC) in northeastern Wisconsin. Local attendees can learn how to use this resource in their community. Those elsewhere will learn how they could create similar tools. Applications are now open until August 27, 2025. Stipends are available! We understand that some individuals may still have financial or logistical barriers to participation. Limited stipends are available for assistance, but if a stipend would help alleviate financial or logistical barriers that would otherwise prevent you from participating, please indicate this in the registration form. What: FREE ten-week course that helps bridge the gap between local community advocates and decision makers in transportation and provides participants with skills and knowledge to advocate for safe and accessible transportation networks that work for everyone. Learn about transportation plans and processes, interact with local and national experts invited as guest speakers, take local tours, connect with other participants, and more. When: Wednesdays from 4-6pm, September 3 - November 5 Where: 5 in-person sessions in Green Bay, 5 virtual sessions via Zoom Who: Community members, local elected leaders, city and county staff, and college students in the Greater Green bay area who are interested in learning more about local transportation to be a better advocate! This grant is for tree repair, removal or replacement within urban areas following a catastrophic storm event for which the governor has declared a state of emergency under s. 323.10, Wis. Stats. A catastrophic storm means damage to urban forests caused by snow, ice, hail, wind or tornado. Catastrophic storm does not include insect infestation or disease, forest fire, drought or water saturation due to flooding. Contact your Wisconsin Emergency Management representative for all other disaster assistance including the Wisconsin Disaster Fund (WDF).
