I have an update on our
lawsuit against the Trump Administration’s demand that states turn over
the private and sensitive personal information of millions of families who
rely on food assistance. 

Yesterday, I asked the court to block Trump’s USDA from attempting to
bully states into sharing the private data of families who rely on SNAP —
the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — while our litigation
continues.

When families sign up for SNAP, they provide information with the
understanding that it won’t be used for unrelated purposes. In fact,
federal and state laws guarantee that this information can’t be used for
unrelated purposes.

But the Trump administration is disregarding the law and demanding that
states turn over SNAP recipients’ social security numbers, home addresses,
and even shopping history going back five years.

And now they’re threatening to cut off $1.4 billion in funding for
California’s SNAP program if we don’t comply.

It’s illegal, plain and simple — and that’s why I’m suing. [ [link removed] ]If you’re

The idea that families could be forced to choose between feeding their
children and protecting their privacy is despicable.

This was never about preventing “waste, fraud, and abuse.” Even Trump’s
own USDA admits SNAP already has one of the most rigorous oversight
systems in government. This demand is about creating fear and driving
families away from programs they need to survive.

California will not be bullied into violating the law or betraying
families who rely on this vital program.
