We already know how this story goes. Trump slapped illegal tariffs on California, denied disaster relief to wildfire victims, and ordered mass arrests without warrants. He doesn’t care about the rule of law; he cares about power. And if Democrats don’t wake up and fight like hell, Trump will have other Republican states lining up, following Texas’s lead, to lock in enough seats to control Congress before voters even touch a ballot.

The thing is Republicans don’t fight fair. They never have. And Democrats have played nice for far too long while the other side flips the table. Americans have had enough. And California Democrats are finally showing that they get it.
Governor Gavin Newsom and top Democratic leaders—Hakeem Jeffries, Nancy Pelosi, the California congressional delegation—are rallying behind a ballot measure that does what Republicans fear most: fights back.
Here’s how it works:
If Texas and other GOP-run states redraw maps to guarantee more Republicans in Congress, California will redraw its own lines to guarantee more Democrats. Call it balance, call it justice, call it giving MAGA a taste of its own medicine.
California reaffirms its commitment to fair redistricting in the long run: keeping the independent Citizens Commission after the 2030 census and pushing for nationwide reform.
If Republicans don’t cheat, California doesn’t either. But if they do? California is ready to rock and roll.
The cherry on top is that Newsom’s team has not only taken the gloves off in the policy world, but also on social media blasting out posts written exactly like Trump’s rants (read: ALL CAPS, exclamation points, punchy insults) basically beating him at his own game. Trump lives off dominating the news cycle with shock posts. Newsom is showing Democrats how to flip the script: use Trump’s own social media act against him and make him the punchline.

Trump, Mike Johnson, and California Republicans are foaming at the mouth about this…which tells you we’re on the right track. Californians already support this plan. And why wouldn’t they? We’ve seen what happens when Democrats “play fair” against cheaters. We lose. Not just Democrats, the American people lose. And we can’t afford to lose again when America’s entire democracy is at stake.
So let’s be clear: Texas Democrats are out there fighting like hell in one of the hardest battlegrounds in the country and they can’t do it alone. California has the numbers, the resources, and the moral responsibility to keep Trump from hijacking Congress. And they are ready:
