John,
The Supreme Court is being asked to reconsider its landmark 2015 decision
in Obergefell v. Hodges, which established the constitutional right of
same-sex couples to marry nationwide.
This threat comes from Kim Davis—the former Kentucky county clerk who
refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples after Obergefell.
She was sued and lost. But now her lawyers are urging the Court to go even
further: to overturn the decision entirely.
In their petition, Davis’s legal team calls Obergefell “egregiously
wrong,” “deeply damaging,” and based on a “legal fiction.”^1
If the Supreme Court takes this case and rules against Obergefell,
millions of LGBTQ+ Americans could have their rights ripped away
overnight.
We can’t afford to wait and see. The far right has made it clear: no civil
right is safe unless we organize to protect it.
That’s why the Squad Victory Fund is all-in — backing progressive
champions who are defending our fundamental rights and pushing back
against right-wing extremism. But we can’t do it without grassroots power.
That’s where you come in.

marriage equality and build the movement that will defend our rights—now
and in the future?
