Dear John, There’s no end in sight to the gerrymandering wars, as a mid-decade redistricting cycle that began in Texas has spiraled across the country. Republicans in Missouri, Indiana, and Ohio – and Democrats in California, Illinois, Maryland, and New York – may soon redraw maps in their party’s favor. This national problem requires a national solution. Reintroduced in Congress last month, the Fair Representation Act is that solution. It would stop gerrymandering and make every congressional district competitive by combining ranked choice voting with multi-member districts.
