Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald

Good afternoon, everyone, and happy Tuesday!

Recently, Congressman Jim Jordan and I sent letters to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman requesting briefings on sports broadcasting markets and "blackout" exemptions.

However, with the rise of streaming services and changes in how fans access games, the landscape has shifted significantly. The current model has led to increased costs and limited access for fans, prompting questions about the Act’s relevance today.

These briefings will help us better understand how leagues manage broadcasting rights today and whether changes to the Sports Broadcasting Act are needed to ensure fans have fair access to games in the modern media landscape.
