Friend, we're monitoring the escalating militarized presence in D.C. closely — and we’re reaching out because it demands our collective attention. On August 11, President Trump deployed 800 members of the D.C. National Guard along with a surge of federal law enforcement to the city’s streets. Public reporting indicates the presence of D.C. National Guard’s 372nd Military Police Battalion and the 74th Troop Command, as well as U.S. Marshals, FBI, ICE, and Customs and Border Patrol officers. In any situation that could involve your constitutional and civil rights, it is important to be able to identify with whom you are interacting and to document the interaction. As federal law enforcement becomes increasingly militarized, it can be difficult to distinguish them from U.S. armed forces. That’s why we’ve created a visual guide: to help you identify distinguishing characteristics and stay informed.
