Governor Kelly Announces Return of the
Annual Governor’s Conference on Aging
"~~ State, community partners, and organizations to host one-day event, ""Oct. 17, in Manhattan ~~"
*TOPEKA* – Governor Laura Kelly announced Tuesday the return of the Annual Governor’s Conference on Aging. The single-day, in-person event will be held Oct. 17 at the Kansas State University Alumni Center in Manhattan, Kansas. The theme of the conference is "Rooted in Respect, Growing an Age-Friendly Kansas".
“Ensuring an age-friendly Kansas is crucial to the well-being of older Kansans, our communities, and our state as a whole,” *Governor Laura Kelly said*. “I’m pleased to announce the return of this annual event to bring together health professionals, policymakers, educators, and community leaders to exchange ideas and collaborate on how to better serve older adults in our state.”
The conference aims to increase awareness of aging issues in Kansas, strengthen multi-sector partnerships, and make the state a place where all Kansans thrive, regardless of age. The Age-Friendly Ecosystem in Kansas touches health, education, policy, financial, legal, law enforcement, public transit, workplace wellness, and more.
A wide range of partners have made the return of the conference possible. Partners include the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services, the Kansas Department for Children and Families, and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, along with Age-Friendly Kansas, Kansas 4M, KU Area Health Education Center, the Kansas Health Institute, Kansas Area Agencies on Aging, and KU Medical Center.
The conference will highlight several key collaborations and projects that support aging in Kansas, including the new State Plan on Aging, the Kansas 4M Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP), the Multi-Sector Plan for Aging Learning Collaborative, and the Age-Friendly Kansas initiative. This initiative brings together state agencies along with organizational leaders and community members across multiple sectors to identify and address the needs of older Kansans.
