Dear John,
Since my email last week, ICE interrupted a children’s summer camp to march armed soldiers and horses across MacArthur Park in an unparalleled show of domestic military force. Gregory Bovino, a Customs and Border Protection chief in Southern California, told reporters, “This is going to be normal very soon. We will go anywhere, anytime we want in Los Angeles.” Meanwhile, another 700 people (conservatively) have been disappeared by ICE agents, bringing the total to roughly 2,300.
It’s not unreasonable to feel overwhelmed by the shadow of the darkness these inhumane operations have brought to our region. But we must respond with light.
Here is a chance to plug in. We need your help to protect neighbors, loved ones, families, and children, and to ensure that when ICE shows up “anywhere, anytime,” we are holding them accountable to the law.

In the last two weeks, our organizers have successfully piloted Know Your Rights trainings and canvasses to workers and business owners across the city, and now we’re scaling up. Over the course of six weeks, our goal is to provide 60,000 Angelenos with Know Your Rights information and talk to 7,000 employers about the best ways to protect workers and customers. Can you join us?
Sign up to volunteer [laane.org/know-your-rights] to educate community members and small businesses on their rights. We’ll reach out and get you plugged in.
We’re still pushing to grow this program to scale. Donate to help put a canvasser in the field [laane.org/kyr] and spread the word.
And if you’re free tonight, here are two more options to plug in:
* Join us in Koreatown [[link removed]] for a Reclaim Our Streets press conference, Know Your Rights skill-up, and kite-making community event starting at 4:30 PM.
* Join the Non-Violence Direct Action Training [[link removed]] hosted by the LA Federation of Labor at the Los Angeles Convention Center starting at 5 PM.
