Donald Trump didn’t just meet with Vladimir Putin. He literally had American soldiers rolling out the red carpet for him. 

Yet again, we watched as the President of the United States bowed down to a murderous dictator who continues to murder civilians and kidnap children.

Instead of military fly-overs and red carpets, the President should be applying real pressure to Putin to end his aggression against Ukraine. The President’s summit is a historic embarrassment for the U.S. and our foreign policy.

Democracy isn’t inevitable. 

I learned this when I served three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, and this truth continues to play out in front of us today. It takes dedication and bravery to defeat authoritarian forces — especially when they’re at your doorstep. 

We all have a part to play in defeating authoritarianism at home and abroad, and that includes standing up for our democratic allies in Ukraine.
