Dear Democrats,
Democrats across New Mexico have been out and about in their communities this summer! Since our last update, we’ve been to parades, helped organize new county parties and volunteered at Roadrunner Food Bank. You deserve to know just some of what’s been keeping us busy and our ongoing work to continue building up a strong party from the inside out.
Summer in New Mexico means it's Parade Season for Dems! Lea County Fair, Mora Fiestas, Colfax County Fair, Roosevelt County Heritage Days, 4th of July in Cibola County, Estancia Old Timers' Parade, McKinley County, Valencia County - just some of the parades NM Dems have been proud to participate in, and DPNM Chair Sara Attleson has joined locals for many of them. Thank you to all the Dem volunteers who make sure our Party participates in these local traditions in every corner of the state!!
|
Officer Update In addition to joining local Dems in several parades across the state, Chair Sara Attleson has been driving across New Mexico to meet with locals to help build and strengthen our Party infrastructure. Chair Attleson joined Democrats in Santa Fe, Lovington, Estancia, West Side Albuquerque, and Rio Rancho since our last update.
|
Also, Chair Attleson published an op-ed in the Albuquerque Journal about the Democratic Party’s long tradition of fighting for blue-collar working families and against corporate greed. Read the Chair’s op-ed here. |
Vice Chair Cam Crawford has also been on the road and helping build county parties. Here’s Cam alongside DPNM CD1 Vice Chair Beau Sandoval in Fort Sumner with the newly organized Democratic Party Party of De Baca County. |
Message from the Vice Chair:
“Here at DPNM, we never concede ground. No matter what the political makeup of a county is, we show up everywhere, all the time. That’s why CD1 Vice Chair Beau Sandoval and I joined Democrats in Fort Sumner so Democrats in De Baca County can finally have their local party back after years of inactivity. We can’t compete where we don’t show up, and we are looking forward to rebuilding and re-energizing the Democratic Party in places red, blue, and everywhere in between.”

DPNM Secretary Brenda Hoskie has been representing DPNM across New Mexico, including organizing alongside local Democrats for the McKinley County Fair and Parade!
Message from the Secretary: Yá’át’ééh-Hola-Greetings New Mexico!
Exciting times for us New Mexico Democrats. Hitting the ground running by supporting counties on parade and making sure our voters get to know all our Democratic candidates for the Great State of New Mexico. Getting our youth involved by getting them registered as Democrats and having them get train to register voters. A special thank you Darla Whitney-Welles, Regional Director, CD3 New Mexico, the Federation of Democratic Women for helping with parades, meet & greets for democratic candidates, and helping with voter registration.
A Big Shout out to all county party officers & caucus’s officers as you guys all make it happen. I see you. Let’s keep all the good work going to keep New Mexico Blue! |
With local elections coming up across New Mexico, DPNM Treasurer Caroline Zamora shared a video with some helpful info about ranked choice voting. If your community has ranked choice voting in local elections, check it out! Message from the Treasurer:
Saludos demócratas, I am continuing to work with our dedicated DPNM staff and expand on our previous treasurer (the amazing Rayellen) training and provide more resources for our county parties and caucuses. I’m proud to share that the Budget and Finance Committee met and officially approved the Financial Policies and Procedures for our Party, an important step toward greater transparency, responsabilidad, and confianza.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to meet with our caucuses and more of our county parties. Juntos, con corazón, compromiso, y unidad, we continue to build a strong and accountable Party that reflects our values of justicia, dignidad, and comunidad. En solidaridad y compromise, Caroline Zamora Treasurer, Democratic Party of New Mexico |
RPNM Officer Update
We’re not usually big too big on keeping you posted about what our MAGA counterparts at RPNM are up to, but in case you missed it, RPNM Chair Amy Barela and Executive Director Leticia Munoz recently instigated a confrontation with service industry staff that caused them to two of them to lose their jobs. RPNM Chair Amy Barela and Executive Director Leticia Munoz took the opportunity to brag about getting two New Mexicans fired on social media.

DPNM Rising Star Gala DPNM is thrilled to announce our 2025 Rising Stars:
⭐NM Representative Yanira Gurrola ⭐NM Senator Leo Jaramillo ⭐NM Representative Michelle Paulene Abeyta Get your tickets for our annual Rising Star Gala!
These promising Democrats have already demonstrated exceptional legislative accomplishments and are leaders in their diverse, blue-collar communities. We could not be more proud to have three Rising Stars who work so hard to represent working families and exemplify our Party's core values. We're all looking forward to their bright futures!
We will also be joined by special guests Tennessee State Representative Justin Jones and US Representative from Vermont Becca Balint! Justin Jones garnered national headlines when he was expelled from the Tennessee House of Representatives in 2023 for protesting the priority of protecting guns over the lives of children after the Covenant School Shooting. Since then, he was appointed to and then successfully ran for the seat he was once expelled from. U.S. Representative Balint is the first woman and openly LGBTQ+ person to represent Vermont in Congress.

In the News
As we passed 6 months into his 2nd term, Donald Trump has made Americans poorer, unhealthier and more divided. Trump promised he wouldn’t touch Medicaid and would lower prices on “day one.” True to character, he lied on both accounts.
On top of his clumsy and vindictive trade policy that's already raising prices on everyday essentials, his signature Big Betrayal Bill is expected to close hospitals, eliminate healthcare, and take food off of New Mexican families’ tables. |
Republican policies work against working-class Americans, so instead of facing the consequences in fair elections, Trump and the GOP want to eliminate voters’ power. At Trump’s request, Texas Republicans tried to make Texas the voter disenfranchisement capital of America. Now, Trump is threatening to ban all mail-in voting. After attacking Americans’ Medicaid, Social Security, and livelihoods, Trump and Republicans are cowering from accountability in upcoming elections by threatening to disenfranchise millions of these same citizens from being able to vote. As a rural state, mail-in voting empowers so many New Mexicans across our communities to practice their fundamental right to vote when they otherwise wouldn’t be able to.
Millions of seniors, working parents, tribal and rural citizens, members of the armed forces, and Americans abroad who have relied on mail-in voting to participate in elections for years would all be robbed of their voting rights if Trump follows through on his most blatant attack on democracy since he lost the 2020 election. Data shows that prices are up and job growth is down due to Trump and GOP policies. DPNM will continue reminding voters that we see real life impacts right here in New Mexico everyday. Check out TrumpTax.com for more info.

The Trump International Trade War is straining foreign relations & making virtually everything more expensive, but what's not getting as much attention is the impact tariffs are having on small family-owned businesses that are forced to raise prices to keep the lights on. Tariffs are forcing large & small businesses to pass cost increases on to consumers, who are already dealing with inflation & a tough job market. County Party and Caucus Highlight Check out just some of what a few of our most involved Dems around the state have been up to. |
DPNM’s LGBTQ+ Caucus recently started a chapter for family members of LGBTQ+ individuals within their caucus. Also, Caucus Chair Marty Jacobson recently spoke to Source New Mexico about New Mexico continuing to provide 988 crisis hotline services for LGBTQ+ youth after Trump eliminated the program at the federal level. Great job, Marty!

DPNM wants to thank outgoing Sandoval County Democrats Chair Alex Piland who is stepping down after doing a phenomenal job for years! Sandoval County sure is a lot more blue after Alex's tenure. |
The entire Republican Party has resigned itself to jumping when Donald Trump says jump, forgetting about Epstein when he tells them to, and now trying to rig the electoral system ahead of midterms. We all have our work cut out for us. We're going to need Democrats to step up in the coming months to make sure we're prepared for upcoming elections.
As a consistently supportive Democrat, please do your part to help keep the Democratic Party in New Mexico strong and solvent by making a donation. |
*Please note: the DPNM Update is a snapshot of just some of what NM Democrats have been up to lately. It will not include everything that Democrats are doing across New Mexico and does not advertise upcoming events. Please check with your County Party Chair for more information on Democratic activities near you. |
