The nearly 300,000 people from the 19 impacted countries who came in 2022 contribute extensively to the U.S. economy. In 2023 alone, households led by these recent arrivals earned $3.2 billion in income, paid $715.6 million in taxes, and held $2.5 billion in spending power.
They also fill critical jobs in industries facing major labor shortages, like healthcare, construction, and hospitality. As more Americans age out of the work force, the impact of the travel ban will be both immediate and enduring — there aren’t enough U.S.-born workers to fill in the gaps, and those gaps will only grow over time.
We can’t allow this new ban — bigger and more far-reaching than those from Trump’s first term — to fly under the radar.
