I grew up in Reno, Nevada, and was raised by my mom and grandmother. My mom was an insurance clerk, and my grandmother was a blackjack dealer who used her tip money to put me through college. They both worked long hours and taught me how to work hard, give back, and fight for what’s right.

Those early years shaped the kind of person I am today.

I moved to Colorado for college at CU Boulder and went on to earn graduate degrees in business and finance at CU Denver and a law degree at the University of Denver. Along the way, I built a career in public finance law. But it was when I started volunteering at my kids’ school that everything changed.

While raising my family in Westminster, I saw firsthand the inequities in our public education system. So I became our school district bond campaign chair, and later co-founded an education nonprofit dedicated to empowering students and their families.

I felt so rewarded giving back to my community, and knew the work extended far beyond our schools. So I ran for Westminster City Council and then for the State House, where I serve today.

In the legislature, I’ve fought to create and protect jobs, support our small businesses, protect abortion rights, combat climate change, and lower the cost of housing. And yes, make sure our schools are fully funded so our students have the resources they need to succeed.
