Dear Friend,
This October, Officer Alfred Flores goes on trial for murder.
If he’s convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
But here’s the thing: the only “crime” Alfred is guilty of is defending himself and his fellow officers.
That’s why I need you to step up right now and rush your most generous gift today to defend him before it’s too late.
Officer Flores isn’t a criminal. He’s a man who devoted nearly 15 years to protecting San Antonio—the very community where he was born and raised. He joined the police force in 2008. He worked the south side as an Officer, Detective, and Sergeant. He earned commendations from citizens and churches for his service.
And after all of that, his career ended in handcuffs.
Why? Because of a single night.
On June 23, 2023, Flores and his fellow officers were called to assist the fire department. A woman was in the middle of a schizophrenic episode. She was erratic. She was dangerous.
When officers tried to arrest her, she resisted and ran away to barricade herself inside her home. She hurled a candlestick at one officer, striking him. She shouted “Shoot me!” over and over again.
Inside the apartment was a bedridden elderly person—completely helpless if things spiraled out of control. Officers feared the woman was preparing to set the building on fire after tampering with her smoke alarms.
For more than 20 minutes, officers begged her to come out. She refused. She threatened them with a hammer. She escalated at every turn.
A plan was made to enter through the patio. Non-lethal weapons were ready. But when the officers moved in, she charged. Hammer raised. No room to retreat.
Shots rang out. One officer fired and missed. Flores was cornered. With his back to the wall, no escape, and the suspect rushing at him with a weapon—he pulled the trigger.
He acted to save himself. He acted to save his fellow officers. He acted to protect the innocent.
And for that, he was arrested.
For that, he was charged with first-degree murder.
Now, he faces life in prison.
