John,

Four years ago, the U.S. military evacuated more than 123,000 people from Afghanistan—many of them allies who risked their lives to support American efforts. In response, communities across the country—including American troops who worked alongside them — mobilized to provide support, resources, and a sense of stability for Afghan families. I had the pleasure of working on the U.S. military bases receiving these long-time allies, and they could not have been more thankful for our warm welcome. Since then, Afghan newcomers have worked tirelessly to rebuild their lives in the United States, becoming valued members of our communities.

But now, those same allies are facing uncertainty. Many are nearing the end of their two-year re-parole period or are losing protections under Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which has been terminated for Afghans. These were never long-term solutions—and the clock is running out.

Earlier this month, Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, led a bipartisan coalition of House members in reintroducing the Afghan Adjustment Act and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minnesota, introduced the Senate companion bill, the Fulfilling Promises to Afghan Allies Act, a bill with bipartisan support. In total, there are 19 co-sponsors across both chambers of Congress for the 2025 Afghanistan Adjustment Act proposals. (**Read the Forum’s explainer on both bills here** [link removed],(D%2DNew%20Hampshire)..)

As a country, we made a promise. We promised safety to those who stood beside us. We must now fulfill that promise by providing a real path forward.

**That’s why I’m urging you to contact your members of Congress today and call on them to pass the Afghan Adjustment Act—or similar legislation that ensures Afghan allies can apply for lawful permanent resident status.** [link removed]

Democrats and Republicans alike must come together to act. Without adjustment legislation, thousands of Afghan families will continue to live in legal limbo, facing an uncertain future,

This is **about more than policy** [link removed]—it’s about honoring our commitments, standing by our allies, and upholding our values.

Our Afghan allies deserve the dignity of stability and the chance to fully build their lives here—safely, permanently, and with the security they were promised.

**Urge Congress to pass adjustment legislation and allow Afghan allies the opportunity to seek lawful permanent resident status.** [link removed]

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Jennie Murray

P.S. Last week, I wrote an op-ed urging Congress to support bipartisan solutions for our Afghan allies. Take a moment to read it here [link removed] and help amplify it.
