You could be doing a whole lot of other things on Sunday afternoon than reading this email, but you are here. And for that, I’m so grateful.

When Mike Espy first ran for U.S. senate in 2018, I was a staffer with the Mississippi Democratic Party. Mike’s campaign had a late start, but he still came within a single digit of our opponent, Cindy Hyde-Smith. I watched as it became one of the closest elections in Mississippi in recent history.

Now in 2020, I am the Director of Outreach for Espy for Senate. When Mike decided to run again in 2020, he made a commitment to the people of Mississippi, and I did too. Because if we don't get this right this time around, I don't know when we will have that opportunity again.

And I cannot think of anyone who is more qualified to represent us and to take care of all Mississippians than Mike Espy.

Mike wanted me to remind you why this fundraising deadline is so important. This is the end of the second quarter — which means our end-of-quarter fundraising number will soon be published by the Federal Election Committee.

When you’re running for office like we are, all eyes will be on this number. You can bet that our far-right opponent, Cindy Hyde-Smith, will be looking. We have a goal to raise another $200,000 for our grassroots campaign by the end of the quarter, because we need the resources to hold more virtual events, telephone town halls, and kick off our organizing program.
