Washington, D.C. | www.mpac.org | August 19, 2025 —The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) is sharing this advisory to inform mosque and community leaders of the IRS’s July 2025 position regarding political endorsements by houses of worship.
While the IRS has signaled more tolerance for political endorsements, made internally and subject to some other limits, the law has not changed, and risks remain—especially for Muslim communities in today’s political climate.
This statement and the attached memo are for informational purposes only and are not legal advice; leaders of Mosques and other religious institutions should seek guidance from qualified legal counsel before making any political endorsements.
