When elected representatives choose to stand alongside fascists, they chip away at the fundamental building blocks of liberal democracy – equality, pluralism, and the rule of law.
Groups like Patriotic Alternative, Homeland, and Combat 18 were relegated to the fringes of our politics because ordinary people don’t stand for their racist pseudoscience, their arbitrary acts of violence, their blind hatred towards their neighbours, or the authoritarian means they’d use to force their will on the rest of us. They reject it.
It’s shocking that these two elected officials no longer view it that way. Bringing these groups into the fray will lead to nothing but catastrophe.
This is happening in full view. It’s staring us in the face. Our politics will continue going down this dark road unless we do something to fix it… and do it soon.
