The legislature is back from their summer vacation and the last 24 hours have created a tornado of anti-vaxx criticism, due to Austin Bennett shoving Senator Pan, that is sure to gain empathy votes. We can’t let all our hard work go down the drain, so please take action to help reverse the rhetoric.
This is the most important thing in this email! We need you to get active on Twitter – really active. If you don’t have an account, please go to twitter and set one up (you don’t have to use your own name). Once you have created an account or if you already have an account, go to https://twitter.com/avoiceforchoice and click on “Follow” and then click on the bell next to that to get notifications from us. We tweet a meme a day on the policy of SB276 directed at legislators. We need YOU to retweet the 4-5 tweets of these daily to the 80 legislators. Please find our tweets by searching on twitter for @Avoiceforchoice and #SB276 and retweet them. To remember, we suggest you set an alarm to check twitter daily and retweet. When tweeting about SB276, please be sure to use “NO ON #SB276” as that will allow other people to search and find your tweets.
There are also other tweets below we need your help with getting out.
The Austin Bennett incident
If you haven’t heard, Austin Bennett shoved Senator Pan yesterday while on live video and is proud of it. For those of you who don’t know Austin Bennett, he is NOT part of our movement and has been condemned by all. He ran in the election primary against Senator Pan in 2018. He also tried to unsuccessfully set up a recall of Senator Pan. Most of us who are working hard to oppose vaccine mandates in Sacramento have ignored or blocked Austin because of his extreme ways and questionable goals. I will go as far as questioning if the incident yesterday was to gain sympathy for Senator Pan. Whatever the reason, what he did was wrong and not at all helpful to our cause. Here is a report of the incident… https://www.kcra.com/article/california-state-senator-richard-pan-assault/28777200. AVFCA responded immediately with condemnation, and released a press alert (attached). Senator Pan is milking the moment gaining support from his colleagues in the legislature (http://calchannel.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=7&clip_id=6522&fbclid=IwAR3ALAadShSN2mtBJ9bkoj0a6XxaK9yrSANJkpOkXAsgsL2A-HlbNtWxCEE starting at 1:43:05). We need to make sure that SB276 remains a policy vote and not based on emotions or politics. All that hard work that we have done over the past 6 months cannot be lost because of the actions of one person that does not have anything to do with us.

If you have a relationship with a specific staffer or legislator either in district or at the Capital please reach out to them directly via phone or email with a short message to the following effect:
“I am calling to let you know that while I oppose SB276, I condemn any and all acts of violence. I ask that [INSERT SENATOR/ASSEMBLY MEMBER NAME] votes based on the policy of SB276 and not the politics or emotion of the situation.
Collusion between Charity Dean, Senator Pan, CMA and California Medical Board
A Voice for Choice Advocacy broke a story in 2016 regarding the Medical Exemption Pilot Program which Charity Dean started in Santa Barbara to review all Medical Exemptions. This was the start of SB276 and now that she is #3 at the CDPH it is clear she has her eye on overseeing the ME program if SB276 is passed. The collusion between her, Senator Pan, the CMA and the California Medical Board is clear, and we have shown that SB276 is not based on actual doctors writing fraudulent medical exemptions, but instead on ego and collusion. We have tried to get our story into the media, but of course that has not happened. I have also attached this press release.

Governor Newsom on SB276
In June, Governor Newsom said he had issues with SB276 which cause a flurry of activity, resulting in significant amendments to the bill, which seemed to waylay his concerns. However, last week he stated that while he is inclined to sign the bill he still has concerns. You can view his statement here: https://vimeo.com/351021781/recommended. This gives us hope that either the medical exemption will be robust in SB276 or he will veto the bill.
Let the Governor know your thoughts on the bill: https://govapps.gov.ca.gov/gov40mail/
and also answer his survey https://newsomlive.cp.bsd.net/page/signup/gcn-em190819-august
WE ARE STRONG AND WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE BUT WE HAVE TO KEEP FIGHTING FOR OUR MEDICAL RIGHTS!
THANK YOU!!
