Trump says he's arranging a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin after hosting Ukrainian leader
Texas Democrat LOCKED in state Capitol for refusing to sign pledge and take on mandatory escort
Texas Republicans indulged in their authoritarian impulses once again when they LOCKED state Rep. Nicole Collier in the Capitol building in Austin after she refused to sign a pledge to return for a vote on heinous redistricting proposals. "I refuse to sign. I will not agree to be in DPS custody," Collier said. "I'm not a criminal. I am exercising my right to resist and oppose the decisions of our government. So this is my form of protest," Collier said. Her protest came after 51 of the state’s opposition lawmakers fled for Illinois, New York, and Massachusetts two weeks ago to deny the GOP majority a quorum in the House, preventing it from holding a ballot on plans to effectively steal five new "red" seats ahead of next year’s midterms — a move that would almost certainly have passed had the Democrats participated in the special legislative session. Republicans hellbent on subverting representative democracy to help Donald Trump hold onto his razor-thin majority in the US House want to force Democrats to sign legal statements pledging to show up for a scheduled vote on Wednesday or else — and be accompanied by individual law enforcement escorts in the interim. Collier is having none of the GOP's "hall pass" bullshit. With Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom vowing to retaliate in California if Republicans move forward with their seat-stealing scheme, dozens of Texas Democrats began returning to Austin this week, paving the way for a quorum on Wednesday. Seth Harp, a Democrat running for Congress in Florida this cycle, accused Texas Republicans of "just absolutely destroying the 4th Amendment," which bars unreasonable searches and seizures by the government. "It's essentially kidnapping and taking a hostage...Hey GOP," Harp asked, "exactly how much do you hate the Constitution?" The answer is *a lot.*

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump previews shocking 2028 plan
The MAGA cult leader, who is literally trying to undermine free and fair elections in the United States RIGHT NOW, hijacked a question from a reporter directed at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding future elections in the war-torn country to suggest that, like Ukraine, if the United States were to find itself at war in 3.5 years we just might have to suspend our next presidential election, too! Hilarious, Mr. President! Also, incredibly on point and wholly relevant to the crisis at hand. You gotta hand it to Donald: he is a human black hole. It really doesn't matter what the topic is, the huckster can turn literally any question on its head and position himself squarely at the center, where all focus, energy, and attention gravitates to him and him alone.
Progressive veteran and career prosecutor quit his job to protest Trump. Now he wants to fight back
Ryan Crosswell for Congress: Ryan Crosswell served our nation in the US Marine Corps and then locked up criminals as a prosecutor with the Justice Department. After Trump took over and began twisting the DOJ into his personal legal hit squad, Crosswell resigned and began plotting how to fight back. Now he’s running to flip one of the most closely divided seats in the key battleground state of Pennsylvania. Once we retake the House, Ryan Crosswell can bring his years of experience prosecuting criminals to bear on team Trump — but he has to win first. Will you chip in to help kick-start his campaign?
Suited and full of praise, Ukraine and allies woo Trump away from Putin
Having learned a valuable lesson from the made-for-TV ambush he endured in February, a suited Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived at the White House yesterday with gifts in hand and reinforcements by his side and had a decidedly less confrontational encounter with Donald Trump. Zelenskyy called the meeting "a truly significant step" toward ending the war that began when Russian unilaterally invaded Ukraine in early 2022. Attended by a cadre of European power players, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the optics were striking. Any ground ostensibly gained by Russian President Vladimir Putin in his one-one-one summit with the Trump in Alaska last week was, at least for the time being, reclaimed by yesterday's united show of diplomatic force. It certainly didn't hurt that the European contingent arrived with a clear game plan: flatter the MAGA cult leader and woo him with performative praise. If there's one thing we've learned in this nauseating decade of Donald, it's this: the man loves an unearned compliment.

MAGA Rep. Elise Stefanik jeered relentlessly as voters give her an earful
Elise Stefanik, the GOP's fourth-ranking House member was mercilessly roasted by constituents in her home district yesterday, getting booed off stage TWICE during an event honoring a late county clerk. Stefanik hasn't held a town hall in more than two years (gee, wonder why), so her constituents were forced to improvise. A one-time moderate who cravenly embraced Donald Trump and drank the MAGA kool-aid in an act of naked self-preservation, Stefanik ignored the palpable displeasure voiced by protesters in the crowd and laughably accused them of being "radical Far Left Democrat agitators." Keep the good work up and your head in the sand, Elise. We'll see how things shake out next November!

Businesses face "chaos" as EPA aims to repeal its authority over climate pollution
The Trump administration is on the verge of abandoning a landmark finding that climate pollution threatens public health and welfare, a move that will effectively repeal "all greenhouse gas standards" at the federal level, according to the EPA. To get a better sense how truly radical this latest move is, none other than the American Petroleum Institute, a trade group for oil and gas companies, told NPR that, despite these latest reports from the Trump EPA, it "continues to support a federal role in regulating greenhouse gas emissions." You read that correctly: Donald and his hand-picked EPA director, Lee Zeldin (lifetime League of Conservation Voters score of 14%) are running far right of the frickin' oil and gas industry with their latest move to gut greenhouse gas regulations. What could possibly go horribly wrong on the one habitable planet in the known universe?

Matt Gaetz proposes that Trump "offer NATO membership to Russia"
The window for Russia to feasibly join NATO was roughly 30 years ago, but that's a conversation for another day. Unfortunately, 26 years into Vladimir Putin's dictatorial reign, and with several hundred thousand dead on both sides from his brutal invasion of Ukraine more than three years ago, now is probably not the time to invite the fox into the henhouse. But you do you, Matt.
