Hey, hey, hey john...

DAY THREE: My furry side-kick, Mr. Funk and I carefully navigated through the thick Anti-Abortion Billboard Forest known as Indiana to get to our next super special stop: Hope Clinic… in the Chi.

What’s on the docket? The Hope Clinic staff requested a little rooftop self-care retreat and AAF WAS ON IT… because of the generosity of folks like you! Will you help us with a monthly donation so we can continue our clinic support for providers like Hope year-round?

I spent the day with Jax West and some other AAF volunteers to tile a deck and put together swank patio furniture that we bought for them. Now staff can grab a couple of moments of zen without being screamed at by protestors on the sidewalk. It’s the simple things, ya know? What an amazing day with amazing people! Mr. Funk, not having opposable thumbs required for furniture assembly, joined us for drinks afterward.

You gotta know Hope! Hope Clinic has been a workhorse in southern Illinois, even before the overturning of Roe. And now they are seeing thousands of extra patients from midwestern and southern states with abortion bans. They’re committed to expanding access, so in June they opened this Chicago location to serve even more people by offering "all-trimester" abortions and specializing in abortions up to 34 weeks of pregnancy. We love to see it!

What we DON’T love to see is that even in the land of Pritzker, this clinic gets a lot of very aggressive protesters on their sidewalk to harass patients and clinic staff daily, so creating a space for them away from these harassholes is so important!

I’m halfway through this trip and I already feel a little lighter in my soul. Yes, the shit is bad. Bad bad. But what I love about the work of AAF is I get to do meaningful things for the people who are most affected by these laws – heart-to-heart actions and gestures that honor their humanity. What a gift. And a monthly gift from you ensures we always have resources to be there for clinics when they need us!

Getting closer to Minny now… next stop, Milwaukee!
I can already taste those cheese curds!
