1) The Best News Out of DC - Trump Is Draining the Swamp

This headline makes our day:
[link removed]

Office of Personnel Management director Scott Kupor estimates that 300,000 federal employees will be gone by the end of the year, a 12% reduction in force.

This is one of the largest reductions in the federal bureaucracy since the end of World War 2, not counting the years after a census count. About 80% of this reduction in force is due to voluntary early retirement buyouts - which were probably overly-generous. About 60,000 federal employees were fired.

At the start of the year, there were roughly 2.4 million civilian federal employees, and the goal is to get that number well below 2 million by the end of the Trump presidency.

2) Minnesota Spends $45,000 Per Person In Poverty

And they are rapidly approaching Massachusetts for the dubious rank of being the most profligate welfare-spending state. From the Minnesota-based think tank Center for the American Experiment comes this useful 50-state chart of newly released Census data for 2023:

The mean and the median are both north of $25,000 per person in poverty - which is substantially higher than the federal poverty level! Something is seriously wrong when states are spending as much as three times the poverty level in welfare spending without meaningfully reducing poverty.

3) The Kids Aren’t All Right! Why Are Fewer Young People Growing Up?

It’s natural for every generation to worry whether their kids are ready to take over the country. That’s especially true now as we see so many 20- and 30-somethings attracted to far out socialist candidates like Zohran Mamdani, who could be elected the next mayor of New York City thanks to a wave of support from disillusioned young voters.

Those of us who are baby boomers share the blame for allowing our kids to be indoctrinated by the most culturally and economically left-wing institution in America - the teachers union.

For whatever reasons, new data from the U.S. Census finds that only 21% of adults between the ages of 25 and 34 have hit the four major milestones of becoming a fully functional adult: living away from their parents, having a job, getting married, and having children. That's down from 45% who hit all four milestones in 1975.

We’ve raised the alarm on the decline in marriage and the worrisome, rapid decline in birth rates.

But the Generation Z cohort better start growing up before they start growing old or we’re facing real problems as a nation.

4) How Reps Can Win on Health Care … And Make America Healthier Again

UP co-founder Steve Forbes explains:

Recent polling from McLaughlin & Associates shows well over 85% of likely voters favor his policy to bypass costly middlemen fees by allowing direct sales of medicines to patients. Across the board, his policies--from requiring foreign countries to pay their fair share for U.S. medical innovations, to securing unprecedented domestic drug manufacturing investments in the face of emerging threats from China, to ensuring Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) corporations can't pocket large drug discounts meant for patients--have approval ratings of 80% or more..

Taken together, these "80/20" healthcare proposals and other free-market reforms serve as the foundation of the "Most Favored Patient" project (I'm one of the principals) [mostfavoredpatient.org], a Trump-aligned agenda made up of commonsense solutions and innovative policies to address the everyday healthcare problems and costs impacting nearly every family. Now, thanks to President Trump, Republicans in Congress have a unique opportunity and platform to turn an issue that has historically been viewed as a primary weakness into a winning agenda that appeals to all American patients, taxpayers and voters.

5) Gavin Newsom's Threat To Democracy

Gavin Newsom boasts that California is "the most un-Trump state in America" and will approve his gerrymander plan in a special election in November. But a poll by Politico and UC Berkeley professor Jack Citrin finds voters strongly oppose scrapping the work of the current independent redistricting commission. Just 36% of respondents back returning congressional redistricting authority to state lawmakers.

An overwhelming 72% of independent voters - a quarter of the electorate - want to keep the commission's line-drawing authority. In an age of polarization, support for the commission is surprisingly balanced at 66% of Republicans and 61% of Democrats.
