Does your membership program align with the values of your institution, or does it have a major case of "we've always done it this way?" Are you stymied by rising program costs, post-pandemic dips in attendance, and other capacity constraints?

In this webinar, Robin reviews the membership program overhaul at the Meadows Museum [ [link removed] ] at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Tx. You will walk away with an understanding of how to approach change*—*from benchmarking data against peer institutions to calculating the fair market value of benefits. This session provides tools to ensure successful implementation and positive ROI. We will also consider ways to attract new audiences, encourage growth, and retain current members.

Robin oversees the museum’s membership and facility rental program, leading efforts to increase revenue earned, strengthen donor relations, and produce mission-driving social events that build community and deepen engagement. She recently led the museum’s first membership overhaul in 20 years*—*enhancing the member experience, improving tax compliance, and contributing to a 17% year-over-year increase in membership revenue. Her team also achieved a 25% increase in facility rentals over the same period.

Museums can play a vital role in their communities by offering genealogy programs to preserve the stories of past generations. Courtney Carr, WWII Veterans Legacy Programs Manager, at National Museum of the Pacific War [ [link removed] ]in Fredericksburg, Texas, will introduce the Society of Sons and Daughter of WWII Veterans. [ [link removed] ] This genealogy focused membership initiative honors, preserves, and shares the stories of America’s “Greatest Generation.” The program provides descendants an opportunity to connect to other families while also documenting their loved one’s lived experiences for future generations.

Courtney is an enthusiastic public historian who holds a MA in Public History from Arizona State University. She has extensive leadership experience in museums, nonprofit management, and served in the U.S. Navy for 12 years.

Strong leadership starts with clarity, confidence, and a shared vision. This webinar empowers museum leaders—both staff and board—to understand their roles to make a lasting impact. It explores the core responsibilities of board service—the duty of care, loyalty, and obedience—and how to apply them to real-world practice. Presenter, Dr. Bob Beatty, explores the difference between management (mission fulfillment) and governance (strategic vision) and how to foster collaborative leadership. Attendees will gain a practical framework for strengthening oversight, supporting sustainability, and leading with purpose, always keeping the museum’s mission at the heart of decision-making.

Dr. Beatty brings three decades of experience guiding museums and institutions of all sizes in strategic planning and sustainable operations. He’s served in senior leadership roles with American Association for State and Local History, directed professional development initiatives, and collaborated extensively with small museums. Dr. Beatty is the principal of The Lyndhurst Group, [ [link removed] ] a museum consulting firm, providing community-focused engagement strategies for institutional planning, organizational assessments, and interpretive direction.

This webinar is a collaboration between the THC [ [link removed] ], Texas Association of Museums (TAM) [ [link removed] ], and Texas Plains Trail Region [ [link removed] ]. Brittany Petrilli, executive director of TAM, and Allison Kendrick, executive director or Texas Plains Trail Region [ [link removed] ], will share a bit about their organizations.
