Friends,

Trump and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi are trying to bully California
into joining the Administration’s cruel and frenzied immigration agenda —
and they’re hurting victims and survivors of crime in the process.

Every year, federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grants provide critical
funding to help nearly 10 million victims and survivors of domestic
violence, sexual assault, hate crimes, and other crimes nationwide. Here
in California, those grants are used to fund resources like emergency
shelters, counseling, sexual assault forensic exams, funeral costs, and
domestic violence services.

These are essential services for people who need support during some of
the most difficult and traumatic moments in their lives.

Now, the Trump administration is threatening to withhold $1 billion of
funding for victims and survivors unless states agree to participate in
his inhumane immigration enforcement agenda.

That’s why today I sued Trump and Pam Bondi to stop this unlawful and
immoral attack. These grants have nothing to do with immigration
enforcement — they exist to protect public safety and help survivors
reclaim their lives after tragedy.

Let’s be clear — only Congress has the power of the purse and the power to
decide how these funds get spent. This administration’s actions are
unconstitutional, dangerous, and wrong — and that’s why we’re taking him
to court, again.
