Hi John,

This year, something remarkable happened in the Oregon legislature: a pro-life bill received unanimous, bipartisan approval.

That measure was HB 2019, which established August 25 as Oregon Adoption Day.

Republican Representative Lucetta Elmer introduced the bill, and she made clear the move wasn’t just ceremonial: it was personal – August 25th was the day Rep. Elmer herself had been adopted as a baby.

“Adoption is an act of courage,” Elmer told her colleagues on the House floor. “It requires sacrifice, selflessness, and a whole lot of faith from all sides. It weaves together lives in ways that reflect the best of our humanity, and it is worthy of recognition.”

For Elmer, the establishment of “Oregon Adoption Day” shines “a light on the beauty of adoption” and sends “a message to every adopted child in Oregon: You are seen. You are loved. And you matter.”

Thank Rep. Elmer for 'Oregon Adoption Day' [mailto:[email protected]]

I’m so inspired by Rep. Elmer’s incredible personal story and her success in rallying bipartisan support for her life-affirming bill.

Please join me in celebrating Oregon Adoption Day on August 25th.

For some, that could mean calling or meeting up with a family member or friend who has a connection to adoption… or maybe it’s posting a message on social media with #OregonAdoptionDay to honor the moms who courageously chose life and made adoption plans… or it could be sharing your own personal connection to adoption by going to ortl.org/oregon-adoption-day [[link removed]].

However you choose to celebrate, thank you for being a part of this incredible community of pro-life advocates here in Oregon. Together, with courageous leaders like Rep. Elmer, we’re lifting up families and children and showing our culture the beauty of choosing life.

Because everyone deserves an advocate,

Lois Anderson

Executive Director

P.S. If you can make it, you are invited to our first celebration of Oregon Adoption Day on August 25th. Stop by our open house for coffee & donuts with Representative Elmer from 8:30-11:00 AM in McMinnville (exact location still being finalized - stay tuned!)
