Donald Trump and his far-right administration have deployed the National Guard and taken control over Washington, DC’s metropolitan police, all in the name of cracking down on violent crime, which is at a 30-year low for the district.

With the heightened military presence, community members are being subjected to random traffic stops, with multiple videos taken of masked, armed ICE agents terrorizing neighborhoods and violently disappearing people like food delivery workers just trying to do their jobs.

As part of this crackdown, Trump cruelly plans to round up unhoused people across the district and put them in jail if they have nowhere else to go.

This is what fascism looks like, John. Trump’s military takeover of DC is an authoritarian show of force, and he’s already suggested doing it to other major U.S. cities.

Everyday people in DC are being attacked and snatched up by gangs of alleged officers with no uniforms, explanation, justification, or due process. This is lawlessness.

This is a naked power grab to make Americans afraid of their own government & distract from the real crimes happening in DC — Republicans in Congress trying to cover up everything from the Epstein files to their own legislation which would kick nearly 20 million people off their health insurance to pay for billionaires’ trillion dollar tax cut.

We cannot and will not let this wannabe dictator use fear-mongering around crime and immigrants to take over our cities. Justice Democrats like Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar are loudly speaking out and fighting back, but the Democratic establishment — including DC’s own mayor — is not doing enough to stop this.
