The Aquatic Park Bathhouse on San Francisco Bay, completed in 1939, was a joint project of the City of San Francisco and the New Deal Works Progress Administration (WPA). Its murals, mosaics and sculptures were commissioned under the Federal Art Project. Envisioned as a “democratic country club” for all to enjoy, the building was described as a "Palace for the People.” Historian Gray Brechin, founder of the Living New Deal, appears in the film. Filmmaker John Rogers dedicated the documentary to his father, a Navy veteran and Matson Line purser who introduced him to the museum as a child. Managed by the National Park Service, it is home to the San Francisco Maritime Museum.
