Before I became U.S. Senator for California, I served as CA’s Secretary of State.

Friends,

Earlier today, Donald Trump announced he will sign an Executive Order to “end” mail-in voting.

He’s taking advice from Vladimir Putin on how to run elections. A dictator who crushes dissent, jails opponents, and rigs elections to keep himself in power.

This is another blatant attempt at voter suppression by Donald Trump and the GOP. Republicans know their MAGA agenda is unpopular. The American people don’t want to cut Medicaid or gut Social Security to pay for tax breaks for billionaires like Elon Musk.

Americans don’t want an army of unaccountable, masked federal agents picking people up off the streets with no information about who they are or where they’re going.

And Americans don’t want to pay more every single day for their basic needs like health care, food and utilities because of Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” and his tariff tantrums.

But instead of listening to the will of the voters, they’re trying to make it harder for anyone who disagrees with them to vote at all.

This is particularly offensive to me because I’ve seen first-hand how secure mail-in voting is, and how it can expand access to the ballot and make our democracy stronger.

Friends, you might not know this, but before I became U.S. Senator for California, I served as CA’s Secretary of State.

Alex Padilla once served as the Secretary of State for California

That made me responsible for California’s elections — ensuring that everyone who’s eligible to vote gets to make their voice heard.

And one of the biggest ways we expanded the number of people who cast their ballot was by expanding mail-in voting.

We did that because I believe, and I hope you do too, that our country is only at its strongest when everyone is able to participate in our democracy and play a part in shaping our collective future.

Friend, I am fighting hard against Donald Trump and the GOP’s voter suppression attempts every day in the Senate. I’ve introduced the Expanding the Vote Act in the Senate and I am working to get it passed. But I can’t stop their assault on our democracy alone. So I have to ask:

If you can afford it, will you please make a $5 contribution to support my work fighting back against Trump and the GOP’s voter suppression?

If you've stored your info with ActBlue, we'll process your contribution instantly:

Thank you.
