John,
Trump wants to bleach the Smithsonian. Ahead of America’s 250th anniversary, Trump is demanding an expansive review of the Smithsonian's museum exhibitions, materials, and operations, forcing them to “align” with his version of history.
We can’t let this happen. Can we ask you to take action today? Add your name to our petition calling to protect our public institutions, fund Black archives, and defend our storytellers.
Trump wants to completely control the
FACTS that
PUBLIC institutions can share. This is dangerous, but this isn’t new.
Don’t forget, Trump tried to erase Harriet Tubman from the National Park Service’s Underground Railroad page. We called them out—and her image is back.
This was a powerful reminder that when we speak out and organize, we make change. But let’s be clear—this fight is far from over, and we’re focused on a lot more than a government web page.
Back in March, Trump signed an executive order called “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History.”
The order calls for a major bleaching of the Smithsonian Institutions and historical sites all across the US.
It’s a complete whitewash of Black history, eliminating critical stories related to slavery, racism, and other challenging aspects of America’s past and present.
And it’s not just happening at the Smithsonian.
Trump is also poisoning the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in D.C. He made himself chairman, fired the bipartisan board of trustees, and declared, “We don’t need woke at the Kennedy Center.”
If you’re not alarmed, it’s about time that you are. This is ANOTHER attack on our public history, culture, and education.
Let’s acknowledge: museums are far from perfect. Many of them are symbols of colonization with their looted artifacts stolen from oppressed peoples across the globe. But we can’t ignore this attack on Black history.
We know exactly what Trump’s version of "American exceptionalism" is: a fascist fever dream draped in red, white, and lies.
Controlling what parts of history people have access to is textbook dictator behavior.
We’re not going to let it happen, John. Join us by adding your name today in support of protecting the Smithsonian—and all museums—as pillars of public knowledge and history.
In resistance,
Black Lives Matter
Our grassroots movement is pushing for Black liberation every single day. We are striving to create a world where Black people do so much more than just survive. It’s time we thrive.
As an organization one of our biggest hurdles is consistency.
A recurring contribution of anything you can afford goes a long way as we plan for the months, years, and even decades ahead. This is the most effective way for small-dollar donors (like you) to power our Black liberation work.
Will you make a recurring contribution of $5 or more today so that we can keep building momentum for our movement?
