Marco Rubio’s State Dept. revokes 6,000 student visa for anti-Israel protests and criminal activity
The State Department has revoked over 6,000 student visas [ [link removed] ] in 2025 for violations including visa overstays, criminal activity (assault, DUIs, burglary), and support for terrorism, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio targeting students who participated in pro-Palestinian protests.
Approximately 4,000 visa revocations were for criminal violations, including roughly 800 students charged with assault, while 200-300 had visas pulled for terrorism support such as fundraising for Hamas, a designated terrorist organization.
The Trump administration has dramatically increased visa revocations, pulling approximately 40,000 total visas in 2025 compared to just 16,000 during the same period under the Biden administration, representing a 150% increase.
Democrats have criticized the crackdown as violating due process, with Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) calling it a "fundamental attack on freedom," while the administration justifies the actions under executive orders aimed at protecting national security and combating antisemitism.
