Non-commercial vehicles in heavily populated counties in Texas require a passing emissions test prior to registration. This includes Tarrant and 16 other counties in the State. ([link removed])
DID YOU KNOW? Safety inspections are a thing of the past for most drivers, but commercial vehicles ([link removed]) that are used for transporting goods or people for compensation are still subject to the annual safety inspection program.

Am I Required to Have an Emissions Inspection?
The emissions test is required for gasoline powered vehicles that are 2 to 24 years old and must be inspected annually beginning with the vehicle’s second anniversary.
Is My Vehicle Considered Commercial?
Generally, trucks and trailers with certain weights, 15+ passenger buses, hazardous material trucks are considered commercial and requires the annual safety inspection. Learn more from TxDPS. ([link removed])
Are There Any Inspection Exemptions?
Good news if you own a motorcycle or a diesel powered vehicle. Only the safety inspection is required. Diesel powered vehicles and motorcycles are exempt from emissions inspections!

The $7.50 “Safety Fee” has been renamed. Now you will see “Inspection Program Replacement Fee.”
Pay the $7.50 Fee at the time of your registration.
$16.75 Inspection Fee for New Vehicles Titled and Registered for the First Time. It is a one time fee and covers the first two years.
