The Trump administration recently announced plans to kill the IRS Direct File program, a free, simple way for millions of Americans to file their taxes online without paying a dime in fees to big tax prep corporations.
The move comes after multi-billion corporations like Intuit and H&R Block spent millions lobbying to kill the program. Because if a free, public option exists, fewer people will use their services, and their profits will take the hit.
Ending the IRS Direct File program doesn’t do anything to help working families — it only helps corporate lobbyists and Trump’s billionaire friends.
