Last week, President Trump effectively made our nation’s capital a militarized zone when he ordered the federal government to take over District of Columbia law enforcement and deployed National Guard troops “to crack down on crime and violence.”

Meanwhile, his 'Making DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force' has slashed the time of obtaining a concealed carry permit from months to days. Donald Trump is lying about crime rates to justify his overreach while dismantling the very initiatives that have helped reduce crime rates in D.C. and across the country.

And it won't stop with the nation's capital, John. Trump has threatened to deploy federal troops to other cities. He has already promised to sign concealed carry reciprocity bills that are being pushed through Congress, that would allow people to concealed carry weapons across state lines.

President Trump claims that crime in Washington, D.C., is at an all-time high – this is a lie to justify armed intimidation and over-policing. 

This is the same Trump who inspired a mob to attack the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, and proceeded to pardon the violent criminals who were convicted in the attack.

Crime in D.C. was at a 30-year low when Trump took office. This is directly thanks to the investment that the Biden Administration made in community-based violence intervention groups in D.C. and its passage of the historic Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
