Dear Friends --
This is a decisive moment for SB 79, our bill to make it legal to build more homes near transit. Opposition is mobilizing – tell your Assemblymember that you want them to vote YES on SB 79!
It should not cost a million dollars or more to live near a BART station or a Metro Rail station. But in many parts of the Bay Area and Southern California, it does.
Many cities still ban multifamily homes from being built near train stations and bus rapid transit stops. While you sit in traffic, only a lucky few get to live near all the mass transit California has built in recent years.
That's bad for housing costs. That's bad for the climate. And it's bad for your wallet.
California YIMBY is sponsoring SB 79 by Sen. Scott Wiener to help get more homes built near transit, including in areas that currently prohibit new homes. SB 79 does that by allowing for streamlined upzoning near certain rail stations and certain bus rapid transit lines. It will help address housing affordability by increasing the supply of homes in these areas, while also bolstering transit use – and the funding stability of public transportation systems.
We've gotten SB 79 through a series of close votes, but the path doesn't get any easier from here – and opponents are mobilizing. We need your help to ensure this crucial bill passes the Assembly.
Will you send a message to your Assemblymember: Urge them to vote YES on SB 79!

NIMBYs are flooding Assembly offices with calls against SB 79. MAGA influencers are spreading lies and misinformation on social media. One of them even made the ridiculous claim that SB 79 would allow 95-story buildings to be constructed in the Pacific Palisades.
(That's wrong: the maximum height allowed under SB 79 is 7 stories, and SB 79 wouldn't apply in the Pacific Palisades at all – it has no Metro Rail or dedicated BRT lines that qualify.)
But as absurd as these misleading claims are, it's having an impact on undecided legislators whose votes we need. The best response is to show those legislators that their constituents strongly support SB 79 and want to build more homes that are transit-friendly.
Assemblymembers need to hear from you right now. Will you send your message urging them to vote YES on SB 79?
Thank you so much for stepping up in this critical moment.
