Dear neighbor,

This past week, we celebrated so many outstanding members of our community. I’m sending a huge congratulations to Giovanni Salgado on being recognized as Irwindale’s Young Citizen of the Year, an achievement given to an outstanding young leader who is active in the community. I’m also proud of the award-winning marching band at Damien High School in La Verne, who was selected to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year. CA-31 also welcomed another small business into our district, Boba & Eats in El Monte.

Congratulations to Giovanni Salgado on being recognized as Irwindale’s Young Citizen of the Year! This is an incredible accomplishment and shows what an outstanding young person you are. Thank you for being a model citizen and I congratulate you on this well-deserved distinction.

I’m so proud of Damien High School’s award-winning marching band, the Damien Spartan Regiment, who was selected to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year! This past week, they hosted a car show to raise funds for their trip, which will make them the first high school band to represent the San Gabriel Valley in this parade’s history. I want to commend the program’s director and students on this outstanding achievement and I’m looking forward to watching them perform on Thanksgiving!

I’m sending a warm welcome and congratulations to Boba & Eats on their grand opening in El Monte last week. I’m proud to welcome another small business to CA-31 and in Congress, I will continue to champion legislation for our small businesses so that they can thrive.

This year, August 14th was the 90 year anniversary of the Social Security Act of 1935 being signed into law, establishing landmark legislation that changed the lives of millions of Americans by providing core programs to promote economic security. Programs built out of the Social Security Act are a lifeline for so many families across the country and are a necessity for our communities to thrive.

I’m hosting a Medicare Town Hall on Tuesday, August 19, at 6:00 PM PST.

Max Richtman from the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare will be joining me as a panelist to discuss the ongoing fight to save Medicaid and Social Security programs.

I hope to see you there, so be sure to RSVP to secure your seat!
