Three Republican governors just ordered their National Guard units to Washington, D.C.

Not because of a war. Not for disaster relief. Not because the people of D.C. asked for it.

But because Dear Leader Donald Trump demanded it.

West Virginia. South Carolina. Ohio. Hundreds of guardsmen forced to leave their homes, their families, and their communities — to stand around in our capital as props for Trump’s authoritarian theater.

Let me be clear: this is not about “crime.” It never was.

Is there crime in DC? Of course. There is crime everywhere there are people. But there isn’t nearly enough crime to warrant National Guard intervention. This is about militarizing our democracy to please a strongman.

These young men and women didn’t sign up to be pawns. They didn’t join the National Guard to carry out Trump’s political whims. They joined to protect their neighbors in times of need, to serve their states, and to stand with their communities.

And now they are being used — just like the National Guard in Los Angeles, just like the federal takeover of D.C.’s police — to create the illusion of chaos and justify Trump’s iron hand.

The Save America Movement will not sit idly by as more federal forces are brought into our Capital. In the coming days, we will be taking direct, peaceful action in Washington, D.C. to meet this authoritarian escalation head-on. To shine a light on what’s happening, and to show the country the truth.
