Trump ordered National Guard troops into Washington, D.C. last week — claiming the city is under a “crime emergency” and that this move is going to “rescue” the U.S. capital.

Here’s the truth: D.C. violent crime rates have fallen over the last two years to the lowest they have been in over 30 years. This isn’t about safety. This is about power.

It’s about Trump trying to normalize the idea that he can send troops wherever he wants, whenever he wants — to intimidate communities, silence dissent, prevent peaceful protests, and lay the groundwork for martial law.

And let’s not forget, on January 6th, while a violent mob stormed the Capitol, Trump claimed he couldn’t deploy the National Guard in D.C. Now he’s suddenly able to? The hypocrisy is staggering.

What’s really happening here is simple: Trump is testing the limits of his authority and looking for ways to turn himself into a dictator. If we don’t push back now, we’re giving him the green light to keep going.
