In-District Updates
It's great to be back home in Minnesota!
Over the past couple of weeks I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many amazing people from the Third District and across the state. Listening to them and hearing about their concerns helps me best represent the Third District in Congress.
Meeting with the Boys and Girls Club of the Twin Cities
I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with the Boys and Girls Club of the Twin Cities in Mound. The Club gives students the opportunity to explore all sorts of academic interests outside of school and serves over 4,000 kids across the Twin Cities. I had an awesome time hanging out with all of you and talking about my work in Congress and the legislative process – and thank you for inviting me to join the ice cream social, too!
Nature Fest!
I always cherish time spent outdoors, and it’s particularly special when I can enjoy the nature and wildlife of my home district! Many thanks to the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge for inviting me to Nature Fest in Bloomington, which celebrates the Latino community and the nature that connects everyone. I toured the visitor center, watched some incredible dancing, and met with organizations like Indigenous Roots and Huellas Latinas. I loved spending time with such a rich and welcoming community.
Creating New Pathways to Policing
Our local law enforcement agencies work hard to keep our communities safe, but they and law enforcement departments across the country are facing major recruitment challenges, which makes their already challenging work even harder. I teamed up with Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt, Plymouth Police Chief Erik Fadden, and Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges to advocate for my bipartisan Pathways to Policing Act, which would help recruit non-traditional applicants into careers in law enforcement. Sheriff Witt, Chief Fadden, and Chief Hodges – thank you so much for joining me, and for all you do to protect our communities. You can read more about the Pathways to Policing Act here.
Celebrating Night to Unite
Night to Unite/National Night Out is a great opportunity for neighbors to come together and to forge positive relationships with local police departments. I had the privilege of spending the evening visiting gatherings all over Plymouth with an officer from the Plymouth Police Department. Many thanks to Officer Klaes and to everyone in Plymouth for being so welcoming – I’m so grateful I got to be part of such a special evening!
Meeting with our Superintendents
I’m so proud of the remarkable public schools in the Third District and the students, families, teachers, and staff that make them so great. I was grateful for the chance to meet with and learn from the leaders of our school districts. Thanks to superintendents Chace Anderson, David Law, Kim Hiel, and Kristine Flesher for meeting with me to discuss their current challenges, how we can best serve our students, and how I can support our schools at the federal level.
Talking with our Ag Leaders at Farmfest
I had the best time at Farmfest! It was great to celebrate Minnesota’s agricultural community, participate in some of the festivities, and listen to what’s on people’s minds. Some of my highlights were meeting with the Minnesota Farmers Union, enjoying delicious corn ice cream, and of course eating some pork chops. Can’t wait till next year!
