#TrenDeAragua ([link removed])
The Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua has gone from being a prison gang with no relevance beyond its home country to a transnational empire that multiple governments have declared a terrorist organization.
But myths related to the group abound. Today, InSight Crime publishes its latest investigation, looking at the fact vs. fiction related to what has become one of Latin America’s most infamous criminal organizations. The investigation analyzes the changes Tren de Aragua has undergone since the Venezuelan government retook control of its de facto headquarters, Tocorón prison, in September 2023, looks at how the gang expanded to become a transnational crime group, and considers whether claims of its supposed “invasion” of the United States hold any weight.
