Everyone, regardless of immigration status, should have their speech protected. 

But this administration has abused a little-used provision in the Immigration and Nationality Act to target students like Mohsen Mahdawi, Mahmoud Khalil, and Rümeysa Öztürk for exercising their First Amendment rights.

We’ve never been a country that criminalizes speech that is critical of the actions of our government. These actions are taking us down a very, very dangerous path.

That’s why I’ve introduced the Land of The Free Act, which repeals that obscure provision and protects the free speech rights of everyone in this country, regardless of immigration status.

The attacks by this administration on our free speech rights are alarming, John. If they’re comfortable coming after one person’s right to free speech, all of our rights to free speech are in danger.
