John,
On Friday, Vladimir Putin stood side by side with Donald Trump and unveiled a so-called “peace deal.”
His proposal? Land for peace.
Putin is offering to “end the war” in exchange for Ukrainian territory — land stolen from a sovereign democracy.
Let’s be clear. This is not peace. This is appeasement. It rewards Putin’s aggression and signals to the world that invading sovereign nations and toppling democracies is acceptable.
The very fact that Putin set foot on American soil is already a victory for him. He walked freely despite an active arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court — a warrant that would subject him to arrest in 123 countries. Trump gave him legitimacy he does not deserve.
History is clear: Aggressors like Putin only back down when they are forced to back down. Trump and Putin’s so-called “peace deal” does nothing but strengthen his hand.
I will never stand idly by while democracy is under siege — not here in America, and not abroad. That’s why I will always stand with Ukraine and fight to hold Putin and Trump accountable.
But Republicans are already targeting this seat, and if they flip it, Trump will have one less voice holding him in check.
So I have to ask:

This is about more than Ukraine — it’s about defending democracy everywhere. I will never back down.
