—JohnToday is the 105th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, the Constitutional amendment that gave women the right to vote. In fact, Michigan was one of the first three states to ratify, more than a year before the amendment became law.
We can take inspiration from the fight for suffrage. Decades before the Amendment was passed, women did what they had to do to change a law that was blatantly unjust and discriminatory – even as they faced dismissal, anger, and violence.
That persistence and perseverance in the face of moral injustice inspire my own career in public service, helping our veterans and advocating for fair district maps. I fight for those who can’t fight for themselves, and I’m not willing to sit on the sidelines and wait for change to happen.
A duty to public service and desire to fight for the greater good is what’s missing in our politicians now. Know that if the people of Michigan’s 4th District trust me enough to send me to Congress, I will always be in your corner fighting for what’s right.
On the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, will you join me in my fight to become the first woman to represent this district?
