Dear friend,
What a summer it's been at OpenSecrets! We've been working hard to develop new and even better ways for you to track the role of money in politics, and get ready: we’re excited to share that new features and tools will be coming to you soon. First, we have some fantastic news.
We are so proud to announce that in July, Harvard University's highly respected Nieman Lab ranked us among the top 25 nonprofit news sites in the country. We were the 17th most visited nonprofit news platform in June, which puts OpenSecrets in the same company as incredible organizations like ProPublica, The Texas Tribune, The 19th, and PolitiFact. This shows us that even when it's not a major election year, people want to follow the money in politics. Our unique data and analysis have never been more relevant.
If you've ever wondered about the trustworthiness of our information, you can be confident that OpenSecrets is among the least-biased, most fact-based publications available. Don't just take our word for it — the two leading arbiters of media bias, Ad Fontes Media and AllSides, both rank OpenSecrets among the most balanced and accurate sources of information you can find.
This commitment to transparency extends to our operations as well. The nonprofit evaluator Charity Navigator just gave OpenSecrets a perfect score: a four-star rating. We hit every mark, which means you can donate to OpenSecrets with full confidence, knowing that your support directly fuels our mission: to track the flow of money in American politics and provide the data and analysis that strengthen our democracy for everyone.
Finally, I’m thrilled to share some more great news: we are hiring! After having to tighten our operations last fall and shift strategy, we are now in a position to grow. We are adding to our data processing and collection operations to prepare for the next election cycle, and look forward to growing our team.
Please help us keep this momentum going. Your donation, no matter the size, ensures we can continue our vital work.
In partnership,
Hilary
