Abortion up to birth has shocked the nation.

Every healthy human being feels an instinctive desire to protect and cherish babies.

This is a fundamental part of being human.

People know there is something badly wrong with those who want to kill babies instead.

A recent SPUC poll found that only 5% of the British public is in favour of permitting abortion up to birth.

Yet on 17 June 2025 a shocking 64% of MPs who voted approved an amendment which decriminalises abortion at any stage of pregnancy.

The gap between the British people and the British political class has never been wider.

This is the moment to usher in change.

379 MPs voted to kill babies right up to the moment of birth.

That statistic should chill us to our bones.

No one who believes in killing babies should ever hold political office.

Rachael Clarke, Head of Advocacy at abortion business BPAS, boasted that “this is the most pro-choice parliament in history.”

She is right but her euphemism means they are the most pro-death parliament in history. There has never been a more morally blind group of MPs.

But their vote alone does not make a law.

The abortion amendment now goes to the House of Lords. The vote is likely to take place in September or October.

SPUC is fighting hard to make sure that the Upper House rejects it out of hand. We have convincing arguments that they should heed if they have any sense of humanity.

One of the most cruel and bloodthirsty laws ever passed went through the Commons almost without scrutiny.

If the abortion lobby had introduced a proper Bill, it would have been thoroughly debated and scrutinised. To avoid that they hijacked an unrelated Crime and Policing Bill instead.

That means this monstrous change in the law was approved after just two hours’ debate.

An amendment that hasn’t been subject to scrutiny is vulnerable in the Lords. SPUC is demanding that peers simply kick this amendment out.

But win or lose in the Lords, it’s only the start of our battle.

The only way to defeat abortion for good is to elect a Pro-Life Parliament.

A pro-life parliament has always been SPUC’s ultimate goal. We don’t just want to stop bad laws; we want to repeal evil laws which already exist.

We want to secure full legal protection for every unborn baby, without compromise and without exceptions.

We have been preparing for this goal for years.

We have built a mighty lobbying movement. We now have more than 60 local branches, and tens of thousands of supporters.

Our people’s army, led by our professional teams in London, Glasgow, and Belfast, is having a devastating impact on the abortion movement.

That’s why Stella Creasy, Britain’s most zealous abortion MP, has warned that the abortion laws in this country may face repeal.

SPUC’s recent poll must be confirming Stella’s worst fears.

Discomfort with abortion runs deep indeed.

Only 17% of the public support abortion when a baby can feel pain (13 weeks), and only 16% when the baby can survive outside the womb (now as low as 20 weeks).

The public wants stricter abortion laws, not more radical laws. This is a reason for hope.

But discomfort with some abortions is not enough for victory. This must be transformed into steadfast conviction and focused action.

That’s where SPUC comes in.

SPUC’s job is to build and strengthen public opposition to abortion and turn it into real and effective political pressure so that laws are changed.

We must push forward to finally achieve the goal of a pro-life Parliament which will end abortion forever.

To achieve this goal will require incredible sacrifices on the part of this generation. It will need to take on an establishment which hates and fears those who love life.

And it will require SPUC scaling up our professional operations to levels never seen before in the pro-life movement.

But that is what SPUC is called to do. And we are called to do it now.

Every day more than 700 babies are killed by abortion, and the clock is ticking for vulnerable adults at risk of death if the Leadbeater Bill comes into force.
