Email from Rep. Miller-Meeks Miller-Meeks Weekly Script August 17th, 2025 View as Webpage Representing Iowa's First District Great hosting Secretary Wright for a visit to the Ames National Laboratory, one of 17 national labs across the country. The lab leads research in energy materials, critical minerals, and the upscaling of plastics, work that is vital as the U.S. reduces reliance on foreign sources, including the CCP. Expanding mining, processing, and manufacturing at home strengthens our national security, advances energy dominance, and creates new entrepreneurial small business spin-offs. Great meeting with Epilepsy Foundation advocates who are living with epilepsy and working tirelessly to improve care. We discussed rural health access, the National Plan for Epilepsy (H.R. 1189), and my work leading the Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act (H.R. 1509). Proud to serve on the Epilepsy Caucus and continue fighting for better care and outcomes for all living with epilepsy. Great joining Senator Joni Ernst and the Administrator of SBA, Kelly Loeffler in Coralville to tour Perspective Therapeutics, an Iowa small business leading the way in groundbreaking cancer treatments. Programs like the Small Businesses Innovation Research (SBIR) help innovators like Perspective Therapeutics create jobs, and compete on the global stage. Had a great time touring the Red Rock Hydroelectric Project in Pella to see firsthand how reliable, affordable hydroelectric power strengthens our power grid. We also discussed the permitting and construction process that brought this project to life. As a physician, I’m proud to have joined local leaders, medical professionals, and patient advocates in Norwalk for a PBM reform roundtable. We discussed several pieces of legislation, including my bipartisan DRUG Act, which would lower prescription drug costs, increase transparency, and protect Iowa’s Main Street pharmacies. Enjoyed meeting with Linda Smith and her friend Carol at our Indianola office to discuss HR 3742, which addresses glioblastoma in Vietnam Veterans and the PACT Act. My Time at the Iowa State Fair Got the best view of the state fair from the top of the 100ft bucket truck at the Linemen Rodeo. Always been on my bucket list! Thank you IBEW My favorite part of the Iowa State Fair is the opportunity to meet amazing people from all around Iowa, and there was no shortage of them this year! As a 24-year Army Veteran, it’s always special when I get the opportunity to chat with fellow veterans about the issues they care most about. Talking all things state fair with The Simon Conway Show and the 2025 Iowa State Fair Queen! Great running into my friend Gov. Kim Reynolds at the Linemen Rodeo! Ran into a constituent from Mount Pleasant while in line to get a delicious ribeye sandwich from Iowa Cattlemen! It was 90 degrees, but that was not stopping us from one of my favorite State Fair traditions, cooking up some great food with Iowa Pork! Had a great conversation with Jeff Angelo at the State Fair about the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, and how it's delivering real support for Iowa families, farmers, and small businesses! Fair food is half the reason to come to the Iowa State Fair, and the Maple Bourbon grilled cheese from What’s Your Cheez definitely proved the point! Fueling up with an HoQ Lamb Wrap and a Specialty Ice Cream Bar before Def Leppard rocks the Iowa State Fair Grandstand! Stopped by the Iowa FFA booth at the Iowa State Fair, always great to see the next generation of agriculture leaders in action! Proud to see Winn and Sara’s Kitchen from Indianola (IA-01) win Best New Fair Food! I absolutely loved their chicken bacon ranch egg roll, well deserved. Go Hawks!
