The U.S. Supreme Court is being asked to hear a case that could overturn the federal right to marriage equality:
This isn’t some long shot, John. Justice Clarence Thomas already told us this was on his wish list. In his opinion, when the Court overturned Roe v. Wade and ripped away the federal right to abortion, Thomas explicitly called for the Court to reconsider marriage equality.
Now, Kim Davis — the infamous former county clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples in Kentucky — is asking the Justices to take her case and overturn the landmark Obergefell ruling that legalized gay marriage nationwide ten years ago.
With the Court controlled by a far-right supermajority – including three of Trump’s handpicked justices – the threat of losing the right to same-sex marriage in this country is terrifyingly real.
