Dear John,

We are excited to announce our Local Peace Economy Learning Hour this Wednesday, August 20th. Joining us live will be the author and public scholar Báyò Akómoláfé as well as his co-conspirators Aerin Dunford and Geci Karuri-Sebina. They are self-described "tricksters of the edges" at The Emergence Network.

In this gathering, they will introduce the concept of Emergence, and play with the idea of what it means to be available for what is emergent in our lives and in a world on fire. They will examine what gets in the way of our ability to flow with emergence, and share with us practices to help us be responsive rather than reactive. The ground is cracking, and it is important to remember that we want it to crack wide open! But since we are all standing on this broken firmament, we need to remember where we are, what we are investing our lives into creating, and to assess what tools we need to be resilient in the face of fascism. You won’t want to miss this conversation!

CODEPINK wants to shine a light on the elephant in the room: we can’t fight the climate crisis without ending war and militarism. In order to save the planet, we need to resist militarism. We want to invite the Sierra Club to sign on to our letter Environmentalists Unite: War Fuels the Climate Crisis. They have a great deal of influence in the environmental movement, and we want to invite them to teach their membership about the harms of war an militarism on the environment.

We hope to see you this Wednesday!

P.S. The Local Peace Economy Project offers a monthly writing workshop. If you have poetry or prose to offer, consider joining this group as we listen to and witness each others' creativity in a supportive environment. The next workshop is on September 8th.
