Hi friend,

I hope you’re doing well and getting some time to recharge this summer. Today, I want to highlight the cuts to veterans’ healthcare in the Hudson Valley being proposed by the Trump administration, what we can do to push back, and my latest efforts to fight corporate consolidation and greed.

It’s not the whole story, but one reason why Trump was able to return to the White House is because many people feel it’s impossible to get by while getting squeezed by a higher and higher cost of living. There are many reasons we saw that happen, some of which are beyond anyone’s control. But one thing that is in our control is that we can stop the expanding power of monopolies in our economy. Across sectors, monopolies increase costs, decrease service quality, and hurt all of us just to squeeze more profit from our community. That’s why I’ve made the fight against monopoly power a hallmark of my time in Congress, and I’m continuing that fight even when we’re in the minority in Congress.

What’s going on

Hudson Valley

What I’m doing: Keller Army Community Hospital at West Point is at risk of losing its inpatient care unit under a new plan from the Trump administration. I sent a letter to the Defense Health Agency urging them to reverse course and keep Keller fully open and fully staffed. Anything less is a betrayal of military families who are sacrificing for our country.

If this plan moves forward, Keller would be downgraded from a full-service hospital to something closer to an urgent care clinic. That would hurt not just cadets, but military families and residents across the Hudson Valley who rely on this trusted facility.

This news comes just weeks after Trump signed his Big Ugly Betrayal, which slashes Medicaid and threatens health care for millions of Americans. This is dead wrong, and I’ll fight it every step of the way.

What you can do: Help keep the pressure on, using social media or whatever platform you have. Military families deserve better, and we need to make sure West Point continues to have the care it needs.

New York

What I’m doing: Central Hudson executives pushed for nearly $2.8 million in bonuses and $27 million in pay raises at the same time they’re raising electric and gas rates on Hudson Valley families. These rate hikes will hit working people with higher bills for the next three years.

Let’s call this what it is: corporate greed. While families are already struggling with high utility costs, Central Hudson wants to hand out performance bonuses to executives, all while raking in nearly $96 million in new revenue.

What you can do:  Utility companies keep jacking up prices while rewarding executives with millions in bonuses. Central Hudson is just one example of a larger pattern of big corporations passing costs onto working families while padding their own bottom line. Call out their greed, keep up the pressure, and join me in the fight against the rate-case system.

Washington

What I’m doing: I joined Reps. Pramila Jayapal, Chris Deluzio, and Angie Craig to oppose the Department of Justice’s settlement allowing UnitedHealth Group to acquire Amedisys, a major home health provider. This deal threatens to accelerate healthcare consolidation and increase costs.

Let’s be clear: this isn’t just one bad merger. It’s part of UnitedHealth’s strategy to control the entire healthcare system. That kind of vertical integration drives up costs, limits competition, and leaves patients and healthcare workers with fewer choices and higher bills. It’s more money out of your pocket and into the pockets of executives.

What you can do:  Help us shine a light on this. If you or someone you know has struggled with rising costs or shrinking options in healthcare, speak up. Share this story with friends and neighbors. We’re fighting for a healthcare system that puts people before profits — and we’re not backing down.

Going on offense

Trump wants to convince us that he and his ultra-wealthy friends are the solution to America’s problems and that we should give them unchecked power. Here’s the truth—they are the problem, and I’m focusing every day on returning power to the people, where it should be.

Keep the faith, keep up the fight, and thank you for reading!

In Solidarity,

Pat
