Cooling Centers, Free Water & Safety Measures in Place as Temps Projected to Soar
The Illinois State Fair is taking extra safety precautions as the heat index in Springfield is projected to hit triple digits after the rain clears. We have four air-conditioned buildings open to the public as cooling centers including the Orr Building, Livestock Center, Illinois Building and the Emmerson Building Lobby.
The Expo Building, the Hobbies Arts and Crafts Building, and the Coliseum, while not air conditioned, are comfortable through the use of fans and offer great opportunities to escape the afternoon sun. We have also set up an air-conditioned Cooling Tent behind the Coors tent off Grandstand Avenue.
The Illinois State Fair also offers eight free water locations for fairgoers to fill up their water bottles and cups while they are exploring the fairgrounds.
Our partners at SIU School of Medicine staff a first aid station in the rear of the Emmerson Building, across from the Dairy Building, and our first response partners are also standing by to provide medical assistance if needed.
For tonight’s Turnpike Troubadours concert at the Grandstand, we are stocking additional water on the track and providing buses to serve as temporary onsite cooling stations.
We invite fairgoers to cool down, recharge, and keep the fun going at the Illinois State Fair!
