Friend —
The United States and the world remain in an absolutely tumultuous situation. This week's historic summit between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, however, sounded a certain note of hope and potential—far beyond merely resolving the conflict in Ukraine. After all, over the recent years, U.S.-Russia relations had reached a historic low.
It does not solve all the world's problems, nor does it absolve Trump of some of his other shortcomings. But if steps are taken, especially if genuine economic cooperation becomes part of the picture, such as the initiative for a Bering Strait project, we are in a different universe, or the beginning of a different universe.
Helga Zepp-LaRouche was interviewed by Russian news agency TASS yesterday in response to the Alaska summit, in which she stated:
"This summit was an extremely important step toward the normalization of the relations among the two largest nuclear powers and pulled the world back from the potential abyss."
She pointed to the "hyperventilating by the Western mass media and the authors of Russiagate," and the ongoing insanity of European nations attempting to derail any Trump-Putin rapproachment as indicators of the success of the summit. She then told TASS:
"The best plan of action would be if the successful diplomacy of Alaska would be followed up by an invitation of President Trump to the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II on the 3rd of September to the military parade on Tiananmen Square in Beijing." This, Zepp LaRouche continued, would allow him, "together with President Xi Jinping, President Putin and many other leaders of the Global South," to send a powerful signal to the world "that the leading nations are moving from confrontation to cooperation and in this way inaugurating a new era of mankind."

The Bering Strait tunnel project has been on the table for many years as a potential means of collaboration between the U.S. and Russia that could pave the way toward a new, more peaceful world. With the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska last week, this proposal takes on an entirely new significance. This week, Diane is joined by Richard Freeman, a writer and economics researcher for EIR, to discuss.
